The Vermont Rail System was pleased to welcome back our rails the members of the American Association of Private Rail Car Owners for a visit during the fall of 2020. While AAPRCO’s planned 2020 convention in Burlington was canceled due to pandemic concerns, eight of the group’s members brought their beautiful, vintage passenger cars to the Northeast for an “American Autumn Explorer” special private charter train from operating from Albany-Rensselaer, NY, to Burlington, VT, via Rutland and North Bennington. The cars arrived on our system Sunday, taking an excursion over the line to Hoosick Junction before heading for a short stay on the Burlington waterfront. It was a pleasure to host the organization and the beautifully maintained cars from a bygone era in American railroading. We look forward to their return in 2021!

Vermont Rail System has been hosting private passenger cars owners on its lines for years, providing guests with relaxing, scenic trips for a weekend or up to a week using our passenger services. Guests have been able to explore Burlington and Lake Champlain in the summer and travel the Green Mountains at the height of fall foliage. Our layover spot on the Burlington waterfront is in a prime location right on Lake Champlain with spectacular views of the Adirondacks. It has sewer, water, and power hookups, vehicle parking, and is less than a ten-minute walk from downtown. For more information on our private car services call 802-658-2550 or email passenger@vrs.us.com.

The AAPRCO train is crossing the Walloomsac River on the way to Hoosick Junction, NY.
