Community

At VRS, our Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York Communities are so important to us. Our freight services have contributed to our communities for more than 55 years with over 90% of traffic serving local businesses. In addition to our freight services, the VRS passenger services contribute to Vermont’s prosperous tourism industry by bringing thousands of visitors annually to view foliage and enjoy dinner on the rails, creating memories for generations.

Charity

The Vermont Rail System donates to a number of wonderful Charities each year. From providing gift certificates for auctions, to fundraising events for Camp Ta Kum Ta, personalized magical experiences for Make-A-Wish, and the Polar Express supporting the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation, it is important for us to spread joy and be involved with our community.

First Responders Training

As part of our commitment to keeping our community safe, we provide free Hazmat Training, and training for First Responders with departments along our rail lines.

Operation Lifesaver Inc.

Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) is a non-profit, international continuing public education program that is committed to reducing rail/highway crossing incidents and educating people of all ages about rail safety.

The Vermont Rail System employs Operation Lifesaver trained and certified speakers who provide free presentations for classrooms, employers, and first responders of all age groups to help increase public safety and awareness around railroad tracks and equipment. Please get in touch to request your presentation.
